Check Out Tiff Needell Reviewing the E60 M5 Back in the Day

Today, Tiff Needell has stepped back into a cone of shade, leaving the spotlight to younger, more energetic reviewers that want to step into his shoes. Out of the top of our heads, Chris Harris’ face pops up almost immediately.

However, the master Tiff is still the best at giving proper advice about a car and telling the story as it is, without getting caught in subversive dialogues and small details. In our opinion, Tiff is still the best at his job today, just as he was back in 2006, when the video below was filmed.

Back then, the BMW range used a different range of codenames and was still designed by the iconic Chris Bangle, the one that created the most controversial cars in the brand’s history, forever imprinting the ‘Bangle Butt’ nickname in our heads.

The M5 used to be called E60 and it was probably the best ever made, controversial looks aside. It used a naturally aspirated V10 5-liter engine that pushed out 507 HP and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque to the real wheels, revving well over 8,000 RPM in the process. The sound it made reminded us of Formula 1 cars and that was no coincidence as the M division claims that motorsport technology was imbued in the essence of the S85 engine.

However, in true BMW spirit, the M5 had to be capable of also being used as a family car as well as a track beast. Now, imagine a 2 ton beast, capable of taking you and your family (together with your luggage) on a trip across Europe, only to arrive at a Formula 1 circuit and also allow you to dance around on it for a while. Seems like a dream, right? Well, that’s exactly what M cars are for.

And the E60 delivered, in a great way. What’s even more spectacular about what Tiff says about it in the video is how accurate his predictions are about the legendary status of the car and how well it will be perceived by the public. That's why we think he's still the best at what he does.

Coupled with the change in direction that arrived with the new model, all of his predictions came true and the E60 M5 is still widely regarded as an iconic car that will forever have a special place in the history of the model.
