Driving on the Nurburgring could get you close to all sorts of drivers and cars and this gentleman in the video below must’ve had the time of his life when he raced a BMW F10 M5 Ring taxi on the Green Hell.
There are a number of reasons why doing such a thing is more than exciting. First of all, the Ring Taxis are always driven by BMW-trained drivers. All of them are professionals that know what they are doing and could draw the track from memory at any time of day and night. That being said, they are really hard to beat on this circuit.
Second, they are driving the F10 M5, the uber-sedan from Munich that has so much horsepower and torque that few cars can actually stand before it. So, when the occasion arises, it would be a terrible mistake not to take it.
That’s what this man did and boy, did we get 10 minutes of golden racing on film! However, a few key aspects should be pointed out before letting you see the actual race.
The camera car is a BMW M3 GTS. That means it was specially prepared for the race and has a different differential than the regular E92 M3, is lighter, has more power (450 HP) and better brakes. On the other hand, the Ring Taxi has 3 passengers on-board that add to the already hefty weight of the M5. We’re guessing that the 5er has to carry around just over 2 tons in this case.
That means the 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque of the M5 are being put to work at all times. Even so, it’s pretty unbelievable how the sedan is pulling away on the straights!
