Check Out the Story Behind the Toyota FT-1 Concept

No one from the outside knew anything about Toyota’s FT-1 project and its clear that the automaker didn’t want to let any information about it leak. I mean, there was absolutely not a teaser photo before the main “unboxing” event at the 2014 NAIAS... only that shadow silhouette for the Gran Turismo 6 simulator.
However, there were a few people that knew a thing or two about what’s happening on Calty’s drawing boards for quite some time before.

After long negotiations, Automotive News were given permission to enter Toyota’s US design studios to make a story about this phenomenal concept car.

The process of creating the FT-1 actually started in 2012, when the recession showed signs of easing. Calty studio wanted to create a concept car to show the world that Toyota can evoke more feelings than a standard home appliance.

As so, the company went through a whole batch of designs, both on paper and in clay until the perfect one came through and Akio Toyoda-san gave his approval.
