"I do not feel any pressure, I'll just have to go on track and have fun to do my job," said Checa. "This will be a great adventure for me.”
Checa comes to replace Mika Kallio who had parted way with the team due to his injured shoulder, riding next to Aleix Espargaro. Pramac Ducati will therefore have the youngest and the oldest rider of the MotoGP. The difference of age between them is more than seventeen years.
Carlos, who has raced on this track for eight consecutive years first 500cc and then in MotoGP, has high hopes for his comeback at Estoril.
"After three years of absence I’ll return to race in the MotoGP world with a Ducati,” Checa was quoted as saying in a statement from the Pramac Racing Team. “Of course the bike with the number 71 on the livery and the Pramac Racing Team colors, will be very different from the one I have been able to ride during this year, but I’ll do my best to repay the trust and the choice that the Italian Team has placed in me."
Checa quit premier class racing at the end of 2007, having scored two wins in the 500cc class during his MotoGP career. The Spaniard has a huge experience in the Championship having taken part to more than two hundred races in fifteen years.
He is therefore returning for the final two rounds of the 2010 World Championship, after taking third in this year's World Superbike standings with Althea Ducati.
Other expected returns to take place at Estoril are to be made by Loris Capirossi (Rizla Suzuki) and Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), both making a comeback after sustaining serious injuries.
