Conceived as a graduation project by Bjorn van den Hout, a student at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, Chargeboard is a skateboard that generates electricity through two dynamos in the rear axles and stores it right away into a powerbox. Although it’s still in development, its creator claims one hour of skating creates enough juice to fully charge your smartphone.
Imagine charging your phone without ever needing a plug, just cruising around with your longboard. The two dynamos measure 6V each and the skate is able to store up to 5V. According to the Dutch who designed it, one hour of skating creates enough juice to fully charge a smartphone, while the battery can hold enough energy for eight full charges.

The docking station is compatible with the iPhone 4 and 4s. However, the board also features a USB 2.0 port that gives one the option to charge other mobile devices like Samsung, as well. Moreover, the board was also designed with an external 3.5 mm audio jack input that makes connecting all kind of devices possible.

Den Hout says the prototype is still in development, but that he would gladly accept any brand, product developer or anyone else interested in the device for further expansion.

We totally like the idea of producing energy while we’re skating, energy that can later be used. We can only hope they’ll finally find a way to produce enough to even power it.
