When you’re so famous Opel will actually accept that you use your own cat as the main model to pose next to the company’s latest Corsa, that has to mean something. And since the German car maker has partnered up with Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfield it was only natural they would ask for his help to host the exhibition once it was officially opened.
Are we hallucinating? No, it’s a cat that poses for its owner photo-shoot to promote an actual car.
The famous photographer and fashion designer opened the photo exhibition “Corsa Karl and Choupette” for the Opel 2015 calendar with an exhibition at the Palazzo Italia in Berlin yesterday. Famous people such as Iris Berben, Bettina Zimmermann, Ken Duken and German minister of transport Alexander Dobrindt were welcomed by the Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann and CMO Tina Muller.
Yep, personalities from the auto industry, politicians and some fashion celebrities were walking around the corridors as they would admire the photographs and drawings of the fashion design icon and his cat.
Here’s how Neumann saw the whole thing: “I am delighted that we managed to prominently position the new Opel Corsa with the calendar and this exhibition and that Karl Lagerfeld, whose model Choupette is the focal-point of the vernissage, is here personally today to open the exhibition. The event unites the art of modern car construction with the creative work of Karl Lagerfel in a very impressive way”.
In case you missed the oddity class, we’ll remind you Lagerfeld is the photographer of the 2015 Corsa Calendar. Choupette was pictured sitting in all sorts of fury positions in the Opel Corsa while it’s owner - who once said he wants to marry the cat - concentrated in taking the best shots.
Mind you, the Birman cat is probably leaving a better life than yours. In fact it has its own 128 page coffee table book AND two maids who maintain a diary about its life.
But you gotta love the Corsa…
PS: the exhibition can be seen at the Palazzo Italia, Unter den Linden 10, in Berlin from February 4 to 22. The daily opening hours are from 11:00 to 20:00 and the entrance is free.
