Chandhok Thanks Ecclestone for F1 Support

After months and months of continuous support from Formula One executive Bernie Ecclestone, Karun Chandhok finally returned the good thoughts to the 79-year old Brit. Of course, he waited until he secured the last vacant seat in the 2010 roster before thanking the F1 boss for his support over the past few months.

During the past weekend, Ecclestone admitted his enthusiasm over getting to see Indian racer Karun Chandhok on the F1 grid for the 2010 season, while insisting that people should not expect the world of him from the get go. He asked the critics to bear in mind the fact that Chandhok's team hasn't done a mile of testing over the winter, therefore the Indian will have a hard time controlling the Hispania Racing F1 car in the first few races of 2010.

Additionally, Ecclestone reckoned that signing Chandhok in F1 would benefit the sport economically also, as India is one of “the most important and powerful players in the world of business, culture and sport.”

Bernie has always been a superb pillar of support to me and my family. It's amazing how much that man (Ecclestone) can do in a single day!” said Chandhok in an interview with Formula One's official site.

Although many would not be so enthusiastic about signing a deal with a team that secured its F1 future in the eleventh hour, Chandhok admitted he is not unhappy with his role for the 2010 season.

Of course everyone wants to drive for a top team, but if the opportunity isn't there you have to evaluate the options. Undoubtedly I would rather be racing for HRT than a test driver somewhere else under the new regulations,” added the Indian driver.
