Chandhok Tests F3 Car in the UK

Karun Chandhok tested a British Formula 3 car over the weekend, at the Pembrey racetrack in the UK. Rest assured though, the Indian driver will not abandon his F1 dream for a place in the British series, as he only wanted to enjoy some track time at the wheel of a competitive single-seater prior to securing an F1 return in 2011.

It's no secret I've been edging towards a test contract in F1 over the past few weeks and after the winter break I felt it was important to do some miles in a competitive race car before getting back in a Formula 1 car,” said Chandhok, who did no less than 140 laps in a Double R Racing-prepared F3 racer.

My good friend Anthony 'Boyo' Hieatt at Double R Racing kindly offered to wheel one of his F3 cars out for me at Pembrey and I have to say I've come away enormously impressed with the current generation of F3 cars.”

I last raced in the British championship back in 2004 and it's mighty impressive what Dallara and the teams have done to add so much downforce to the cars. It's really no surprise that drivers are able to get out of these and be quick in GP2 or F1 straight away.”

In recent weeks, Chandhok has held several talks with Team Lotus for a reserve deal through the 2011 season, having also been invited to the team's facility and garage for the F1 group test in Jerez. However, some media reports hinted that Chandhok will soon get some testing time at the wheel of the T128 challenger, after which he'll sign a reserve contract for the upcoming campaign.
