Chandhok Denies Stefan GP Reports

One day after Karun Chandhok was linked with a racing deal with Stefan GP, the Indian driver issued a quick response to the allegations, insisting that nothing that has been written on this topic is true. Not that he's mind for it to become true anyway, but the fact of the matter is he is still keeping his options open for the season to come.

I am surprised to see the reports emerging, I haven't signed any contract with any team as of now. For now it is all speculation, but I wish it comes true. I have been speaking to teams since August 2009 and for now, I have kept my options open,” said the Indian driver, according to DNA India.

While admitting he was in talks with Zoran Stefanovic for a job with his team, Chandhok revealed his options are still open, meaning no deal has been signed. According to Germany's, this could mean the Indian will be signed as 3rd and reserve driver for the team, leaving one vacancy in the Serbian team's lineup for 2010.

We said one vacancy because Stefanovic already hinted that one of his drivers will be Japanese and has a 2-year experience in Formula One. Anyone you know fits that description? Yes, it's Toyota-backed driver Kazuki Nakajima who'll continue his career in F1 with Stefan GP – in case the team does get the F1 entry from the FIA in due time – probably in exchange for Toyota's single-seater, base and technology.

This can only mean good news for Ralf Schumacher, as the German was credited with the highest chances of joining the Serbian team in 2010 before the Chandhok reports. Nevertheless, according to the same German website, it seems another high-ranked former F1 driver has stepped into the mix, namely 1997 champion Jacques Villeneuve.

The Canadian driver continued to tell the media in recent weeks that he hasn't given up on trying to secure an F1 return this season, and this might happen with Stefan GP. Earlier this week, team owner Zoran Stefanovic confirmed that he'll announce the drivers' lineup for the 2010 season in the next few days.
