CGI: 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is still an enigma for all of us and, although the company struggles to keep things secret, here's a glimpse into how the future model will actually look like. The adjacent computer-generated images (CGIs) are based on the recently-revealed New Compact Coupe, a vehicle displayed at the 2010 North American International Auto Show and believed to hit the stores in the next years in case it really makes it to production.

As you can see for yourselves, the Jetta (in case it will indeed look like the one in the photos) will feature the same Volkswagen front fascia design we've seen on recently-rolled out models sold under the German brand, including the Golf and the Scirocco.

Obviously, it's way too early to discuss the technical details of the car but, given that it will be based on a hybrid concept, expect the engine lineup to be specifically tweaked to return the best possible fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions. A hybrid version is very likely.

And because we're talking a hybrid powertrain, the concept displayed at NAIAS was powered by a TSI gasoline-engine and an electric motor. The gasoline engine, paired to a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) develops 150 HP, while the electric motor adds 27 HP.

Fuel consumption is one of the main attributes, with initial figures pointing to 4.2 l/100 km (45 mpg), while releasing only 98g of CO2/km into the atmosphere. All this while performance figures still remain high: naught to sixty acceleration is 8.1 seconds and the top speed is 227 km/h (141 mph).
