CGI: 2011 Mitsubishi Compact Crossover

Mitsubishi confirmed last week that it is developing a new compact crossover to be launched in 2010 but the company has only released a small sketch giving us a glimpse into how the model will look like. But here are two computer-generated images (CGI) based on the sketch and the spyshots we've seen before.

The car will be inspired by the cX concept displayed two years ago and will be officially revealed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March. Nevertheless, Mitsubishi wants to begin sales of the car in February in its domestic market.

According to preliminary details that surfaced along with a set of spyshots, the car will look somewhat like a Nissan Qashqai and
will obviously address the same buyers segments.

There will be multiple new engine options, each of them specifically optimized for reduced fuel consumption and improved efficiency. The new engine range will develop outputs ranging from 90 to 170 horsepower. Diesel units will be available as well, with Lancer’s 140-hp 2.0-litre DI-D configuration very likely to be offered on the upcoming Crossover as well.

A hybrid powertrain will most likely make it on the production model. Front-wheel drive will be offered as standard while all-wheel drive will come as an option.

"This on-road Compact Crossover will be the Corporation's next game changer towards lower impact vehicles, in their format and/or in the innovative MMC proprietary technologies they will feature,"
Mitsubishi said in a press release last week, explaining that the car will thus help the company migrate from off-road models to more consumer-oriented models.
