Celebrating Sheer Driving Experience: 1972 BMW 2002tii

Back in the 1970s, when the BMW 2002 was on sale, we’re pretty sure the “Sheer Driving Experience” motto wasn’t even taken into consideration. Not because the cars weren’t good enough but rather because the Bavarian company was undergoing some really bad financial struggles.
Somehow, they managed to pull through but it wasn’t thanks to a mere coincidence. It was mostly because of iconic cars such as the BMW 2002 and its high-performance version, the 2002tii.

What was special about this model was found under all the metal sheets and the carpet inside. It was the chassis. Combined with a good, reliable 4-speed gearbox and a brilliant engine, this baby could offer its drivers thrills like nothing else you could get back in that day.

The most important thing about these models is that even today, people find them highly entertaining and fun to drive, even though the specs are by no means spectacular. Come to think of it, the revolutionary fuel-injected engine that makes 130 HP and 131 lb-ft (178 Nm) of torque can scarcely be thought of as ‘impressive’ today but were absolutely bonkers back in the day.

The man in the video below knows everything I just told you not from reading of it online but from driving such a car on a daily basis. He has a 1972 2002tii BMW that he enjoys as often as possible and decided to share his thoughts on the car with the guys from Driving While Awesome. You can check him out below.
