When it comes to Nurburgring lap times, Porsche's all-in approach is predictable, but even Zuffenhausen aficionados can sometimes be surprised by the potential of these sportscars.
Case in point with the Cayman GT4. Sure, the standard car is fast, with a lap time of 7:40, but we're talking about another kind of adventure here, namely a 7:29 stunt.

Last month, a GT4 tuned by Manthey Racing, which happens to be owned by Porsche and helped the German automaker develop the Clubsport racecar incarnation of the Cayman GT4, managed to pull the magical time mentioned above.

The time is not just surprising in itself, but also thanks to the fact that while Porsche may have allowed the Cayman to enter 911 territory further than ever before with the GT4, Zuffenhausen always like to maintain a certain distance between the two.

In fact, the rumor mill talks about how the Cayman GT4 was first tested with a PDK gearbox, but its times were threatening those of Porsche's rear-engined coupe, so the paddle toy was skipped, even when it comes to the list of options.

Well, the Manthey-tweaked GT4 has managed to one-up the already-stellar Nordschleife time of the 991.2 911 Carrera S facelift by one second. For the sake of comparison, we should explain GT3 RS PDK owners have nothing to worry about, as the Rennsport Neunelfer can get round the Green Hell in 7:20. And this is one more occasion to mention that, according to Porsche, the 991.2 Turbo S can complete the task even quicker, getting things done in 7:18.

While the list of mods is mentioned in the clip, most of them have MR (the track specialist's initials) in front of them, so we actually don't know too much about the tech goodies fitted to this mid-engined Porscha.

P.S.: We couldn't help by notice how this tuned Cayman's Nurburgring lap includes considerably more countersteering maneuvers compared to the adventures displayed by factory stock cars. We wonder why...
