The Caterham Seven, with its ultra-light weight, is a prime candidate for the use of a small, light, compact and powerful turbocharged engine. Apparently, Caterham are pondering putting the Ford 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, under the bonnet of their faithful Seven.
They even have a prototype out, which was driven around the Brands Hatch track, by the guys over at blenheimgang.com. They like the raspy sound and audible turbo whine, predictably excellent handling, thanks in no small part to its extremely low overall weight of just 550 kg.
The engine in the prototype was in standard tune, producing 125 hp, but we know for a fact that the little 1.0-liter unit can give much more. We are really curious as to how this progresses, but since the combination of this car and this engine is such a good and balanced one, Caterham would be foolish not to put it into production.
