British sportscar manufacturer has taken the wraps off its brand new entry-level vehicle, the Suzuki-powered Seven 160. Motivated by a Suzuki 660cc turbo engine that’s been tweaked by Caterham’s engineers to deliver 80 horsepower, the the Seven 160 is able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 6.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h).
Priced from £14,995 “in component form” or £17,995 fully built, the new Seven 160, which comes with a live-axle rear suspension, is the cheapest Caterham money can buy and promises to be the ultimate vehicle in “accessible fun”. The open top sportscar conforms to EU5, EU6 and JC08 CO2 emissions and will be sold across Europe under the Seven 165 name.
“As the Caterham Group as a whole grows and expands into new sectors and industries, our commitment to keep evolving the Seven is very much alive. The 160 offers something truly different to the entry-level market. It’s more economical, more accessible and every bit as fun on the road as other Sevens but has its own unique personality,” said Caterham Cars CEO Graham Macdonald.
“The engineering challenges we faced when developing the new vehicle were significant. The engine, suspension and the overall dynamics all needed to work in harmony and the various arms of the Group have been successful in pooling facilities and expertise to achieve that,” he added.
