Caterham is taking firm steps in motorcycle racing, as Kamarudin Meranun, the chief of the two-wheeled project makes it clear that the ultimate goal is nothing short of racing in MotoGP.
More than eager to speed up the evolution of their motorcycle project, Caterham is working on their own prototypes, but are bent on making serious project in the road racing segment. Their Moto2 team employs Josh Herrin and Johann Zarco, but this is only the beginning.
Meranun openly speaks about Caterham's 3-year racing plans, with the first two dedicated to Moto2 and learning as much as possible from the class.
The ultimate goal is an entry in MotoGP, he says. Caterham is so far working with Suter and seem happy about the collaboration. However, Meranun does not rule out the possibility that Caterham attempts to build their own frame and run a factory team, if possible.
In case the MotoGP grid will not allow more factory teams in 3-years' time, Caterham is also willing to team up with an existing "client team" which would ride their machines.
Now, 3 years are not THAT long, and it's nice to see such determination from new manufacturers. We might be in for some nice surprises...
