Caterham R500 Confirmed for Top Gear Live World Tour

After it has achieved the fifth fastest time on Top Gear’s Lap board, overtaking even the 25-times more expensive Bugatti Veyron and embarrassing several other supercars, the Caterham Superlight R500 has been confirmed for the Top Gear Live World Tour. The British iconic supercar will make its debut in the Top Gear Live show next month at the MPH Prestige and Performance Motor Show, due to take place in Earls Court, London.

The R500 will therefore be the star at London’s Earls Court on November 5-8 and Birmingham’s NEC on 12-15 November, followed by Dublin, Sydney and Auckland as part of the Top Gear Live World Tour.

With Top Gear’s mystery test driver, The Stig, behind its wheel, the British supercar instantly left a lasting impression when it lapped around the team’s benchmark test circuit, Dunsfold, at the beginning of December, 2008. Following the successful test, Top Gear has named the Caterham Superlight R500 its 2008 ‘Car of the Year’.

To highlight this performances, Danish company LEGO has even decided to capture a ‘square’ moment of BBC TV’s famous show and added a scene with the show’s presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May as well as the Stig around a Caterham R500 LEGO replica.

The Caterham 7 Superlight R500 is fitted with a 2.0-liter Caterham Powertrain (CPT) Ford Duratec developing 263 bhp at 8,500 rpm and mated to a six-speed gearbox. This boosts the car from naught to sixty in 2.88 seconds and enables it to sprint until the needle freezes at a top speed of 150 mph.
