His recognition as a MotoGP Legend willoccur in a special event during the Tissot Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix next week at Phillip Island, MotoGP.com reports. Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta says he talked to Stoner and the Aussie was thrilled to learn about this, honored to accept.

A World Champion with two different bikes (Ducati and Honda) in 2007 and 2011, Stoner never saw this one coming, and he was already ecstatic to ride a lap of honor at Phillip Island nest week in the company of other two Australian riding legends, Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan.

Stoner retired from MotoGP at the age of 27 and he denies the rumors of making a comeback to the premiere class. The MotoGP Legends Hall of Fame also includes the select company of Giacomo Agostini, Mick Doohan, Geoff Duke, Wayne Gardner, Mike Hailwood, Daijiro Kato, Eddie Lawson, Anton Mang, Angel Nieto, Wayne Rainey, Phil Read, Jim Redman, Kenny Roberts, Jarno Saarinen, Kevin Schwantz, Barry Sheene, Freddie Spencer, John Surtees and Carlo Ubbiali.
