As it was rumored, Casey Stoner visited the Repsol Honda paddock at the Curcuit of the Americas in Austin, TX and met with Shuhei Nakamoto who didn’t even try to hide his happiness. However, the rumor mill has only started to work harder, as neither Stoner nor Nakamoto said anything on his possible comeback.
On one hand, we all know that HRC would gladly welcome him back, possibly stuffing a signed blank check in his front pocket beforehand. Honda simply had to witness the 2-time champion leaving the MotoGP at the end of 2012, with absolutely nothing it could do, but given Stoner’s skill, he’d most likely find a factory seat with any team. 2014 also brings an end to a lot of the top riders’ contracts, and some fellows even speculate that Stoner is in fact scouting.

On the other hand, Casey Stoner played the same old song: more power and less electronics and he might be interested. Honestly, I can’t tell whether he is serious or is simply joking. It’s been more than once when he told that only a bike with more than 300 horsepower and only minimal electronics intervention would make him think seriously about a MotoGP comeback.

With all the updated regulations in the electronics department, it’s hard to believe there is any future for turning back to a more basic concept. If anything, power could be increased, especially with revising the fuel allocation, and some more modifications. Still we’re already facing some tire problems from Bridgestone this year, and adding more power would only make things even harder.

Now, it’s either Stoner asking for things he knows MotoGP simply cannot provide to justify his decision not to come back, or he’s just using these jokes to disguise his plans to take Dani Pedrosa’s place in the Repsol Honda team…
