It’s not a secret that right now, the options to customize CarPlay are super-limited and there’s not much that you can configure about the app.
And this makes total sense given Apple’s walled garden that also includes major restrictions for so many other iPhone features.
But as many users discovered, the world of jailbreaking provides access to plenty of cool features, including some that are specifically aimed at CarPlay.
This is also the case of the customization that you see here, and which is basically just a custom background configured for CarPlay. The jailbreak tweak that allowed for this change is called Canvas, but there’s good news for everybody who wants to set a different wallpaper for CarPlay.
The upcoming iOS 14, which Apple will release for all supported iPhone models, will go live in the fall with options to set custom CarPlay wallpapers as well, albeit at this point, the information in this regard is still pretty vague. So what we know is that CarPlay backgrounds will certainly be supported, but on the other hand, it remains to be seen if Apple wants to force users to stick with a series of pre-defined backgrounds or pretty much any image can be used.
A preview of iOS 14 is expected in the coming weeks, with Apple likely to offer a public demo at the WWDC conference later this month. Shortly after the event, a beta version of iOS 14 is also supposed to go live, but for now, it’s still not known if the CarPlay wallpaper feature is projected to be part of this early build or not.
On the other hand, the final version of iOS 14 coming in September is all but confirmed to boast support for CarPlay backgrounds, so we’re only a few months away from the moment this highly-anticipated feature should go live for everybody, as long as their iPhone model is supported by the new update.
