The engine that powers Waze is what makes this traffic navigation app truly special, as it’s a community-driven application that’s based on user reports to warn of speed cameras, traffic jams, or road hazards discovered on the route.
But as some users discovered recently, the Waze app doesn’t always work exactly as expected, as it sometimes forgets to warn of speed cameras when running on CarPlay.
As weird as that may sound, the issue only happens with CarPlay activated, and users in this reddit discussion claim the whole thing first showed up earlier this month.
Everything is working just as expected on the iPhone without the mobile device plugged in and CarPlay runningt, these users say, with all speed camera alerts issued correctly. But when CarPlay is activated, the app sometimes forgets to warn of speed cameras.
“Similar issue here. But it seems to be working fine without CarPlay, but as soon as I plug it in, a lot of alerts that were showing on the phone seem to disappear,” one user explains.
At this point, it’s pretty difficult to tell what is the culprit or the problem, as the whole thing seems to be come down to some sort of compatibility issue between CarPlay and Waze.
On the other hand, Waze has recently experienced another major issue on CarPlay, breaking down the car volume after an update released by the parent company. The problem was eventually resolved with an emergency update that was published last weekend, so if you’re experiencing audio issues in the car when Waze is running on CarPlay, make sure you update to the latest version.
A similar bug has also been reported lately, only that it affected the audio warnings, with the visual notifications still working correctly.
This advice, however, doesn’t apply to today’s issue, as the missing alerts don’t seem to have a fix just yet. Waze is yet to acknowledge the problem at the time of writing, but we reached out to the company and will post an update if and when an answer is offered.
