Spotify is one of the most, if not the most, popular music app for Android Auto and CarPlay, and this means that the parent company needs to make sure that everything’s running properly after every single update.
But a recent release has done more harm than good, as Spotify is now skipping during songs for a reason that’s impossible to determine (and fix).
The issue, which I also experienced on CarPlay, appears all of a sudden, and oddly enough, it doesn’t even happen all the time when using Spotify. Disconnecting the iPhone and reconnecting it to relaunch CarPlay isn’t by any means a workaround, simply because the bug happens randomly.
In some cases, I noticed that the audio skipping happens when a navigation app is running on the screen, although I still can’t confirm this is the case every time the issue occurs. Someone else on Spotify forums explains the same problem happens on both Wi-Fi and cellular data - I only used Spotify with a data connection in my car, so I can’t test if the same thing happens on a Wi-Fi network.
“Whenever I stream anything, Spotify will skip/jump throughout the entirety of a song. I’m not sure why this has started to occur as nothing on my end has changed (to my knowledge). I’m on a premium account and stream songs both through cellular data and WiFi (happens on both) on my iPhone 11. I’ve tried all previous suggestions. Turning phone ok/off, updating app, latest iOS, setting streaming music quality to low, but nothing has helped,” someone explains on the Spotify forums.
Spotify is yet to acknowledge this weird behavior, but up to this point, it really doesn’t seem to be widespread. I tried everything from reconnecting the iPhone, reinstalling Spotify, toggling airplane mode on and off, playing a different song, all to no avail.
At this point, we’re still waiting for an answer from Spotify to find out if they’re looking into the issue or not.
