Car aficionados express their passion for cars in different ways. Some buy and collect them, while others craft their own, even if they’re made of wood.
The Woodworking Art channel on YouTube belongs to an insanely talented Vietnamese carpenter and among others, showcases some of the most legendary car models ever made, but portrayed as wooden replicas. The wooden vehicles are crafted with rare attention to detail, using the finest, more precious wood.
One of the latest projects shared on the channel is a 2021 Land Rover Defender 110 X, and it’s a thing of beauty.
As its creator explains on his Etsy seller account, the Land Rover took him about 32 days to complete, which is not even that long, given the incredible attention to detail. The Rover was carved piece by piece, including the chassis, doors, windshield, mirrors, wheels (including the spare one!), and so on, and then carefully put together in a perfect assembly.
The wooden car is made of Fujian cypress wood, a highly valued timber in Vietnam. This type of wood has a high density, a characteristic aroma, and is very resilient against termites, which makes it a great choice for furniture and artifacts.
The Defender replica has a weight of 3 kg (6.6 pounds) and the following dimensions: 353 L x 143 W x 129 H mm (13.8 X 5.6 X 5.07 in).
The artist explains on his Facebook page that the 2021 Land Rover Defender 110 X fascinated him ever since he saw its video review and this replica was ordered by a friend of his. And if you want to order your own, you can do so by visiting the artist’s Etsy page. The wooden car is priced at € 963 (approximately $1,155).
It is no wonder that the Defender 2021 stuck with the Vietnamese artist, as the car was awarded the World Car Awards prize for best design. The Land Rover Defender was launched at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show and was very well received by both the automotive press as well as the public.
