Carlos Ghosn Appointed President and CEO of Renault

At Renault's Annual General Meeting held on May 6, 2009, the Board of Directors named Carlos Ghosn the new Chairman of the Board of Directors and also appointed him President and CEO of Renault.

Carlos Ghosn, 55, joined Renault as Executive Vice President in 1996. In addition to supervising Renault activities in Mercosur, he was responsible for research, automobile engineering and development, manufacturing, powertrain operations, and purchasing.

Ghosn joined Nissan Motor as Chief Operating Officer in June 1999 and was named Chief Executive Officer in June 2001. President of Renault since May 2005, he remains President and CEO of Nissan. Carlos Ghosn is also a director of Alcoa and AvtoVAZ.

The decision of naming a new President and CEO came as Louis Schweitzer confirmed that he will not renew his directorship, but the Board of Directors appointed him Honorary President of Renault.

Louis Schweitzer, 67, joined the management of Renault in 1986, and became Chief Financial Officer and Head of Strategic Planning in 1988. He became Executive Vice President in 1989 and Chief Operating Officer in December 1990.

Schweitzer was President and Chief Executive Officer of Renault from May 1992 to April 2005, and President of the Renault-Nissan Alliance Board from May 2002 to April 2005. In March 2005, he was named President of France's Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discrimination Commission (HALDE) by the President of the Republic for a 5-year term.

He is Chairman of the Board of Astra Zeneca and a director of BNP Paribas, AB Volvo, Veolia Environnement and L'Oreal. He is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of media group Le Monde. Louis Schweitzer is a Commander of the Legion of Honor and a Grand Officer of the National Order of Merit.
