It's now time to say goodbye (from a racing point of view) to another motorcycle legend: Carlos Checa. The Spaniard, who is now 41, will announce his official retirement during a press conference today.
His road racing career spans across two decades and multiple classes. He rode in the 125, 250 and 500 GP classes as well as in World Superbike, and he also won a SBK world title in 2011. Aside this title, his amazing career includes 150 races, 24 wins and 49 podiums.
Unfortunately for Carlos Checa, a nasty crash at Istanbul, Turkey resulted in a pelvis fracture and he was forced to sit out for the remainder of the season. This and the absence of a solid offer for 2014led Checa to decide to step down from racing.
An inspiration for generations to come, Carlos Checa was also honored by helmet manufacturer X-Lite with a special edition carbon fiber helmet to mark both his racing legacy and two decades of motorcycle racing.
