As well as changing the way we look at European pickup trucks, Carlex Design continues to impress us with its luxury interior makeovers. The Porsche Macan and Maserati Levante got special treatment at nearly the same time, so we decided to share the projects as a couple.
The word "luxury" gets tossed around a lot these days, and while both these SUVs are more expensive than most, their interiors only come alive when companies like Carlex give them the time of day.
Unfortunately, these changes require countless hours of fabrication at a cost that might be offputting to most owners. And it's not like when you sell the car, you can take the interior out and enjoy it in something else, though this would make a great living room.
The Macan is perhaps more feminine, but not in an embarrassing way. All its trim elements have been finished in rose gold. Meanwhile, the seats and even the dashboard come in a porcelain Nappa leather with a bit of light brown added to the top of the dash. It looks like crocodile or snakeskin was used for inserts on the steering or dash.
Really, the Macan interior is so cool that our layman's tongue has difficulty describing it. But thankfully, the
Maserati is way more natural because it's finished in a manly all-black combo.
Still, the variety of finishes bathes the mind. As with the Macan, some kind of reptile skin is used as an accent on the steering wheel, which features new perforated Nappa bolsters.
A computer-programmed diamond theme is embossed into the seats and door elements, while the metal finish used for things like the buttons is pretty dark. It makes you wish they did this to a more timeless SUV or one that's worthy of attention like the record-holding Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Alas, we're not the ones who decided how wealthy customers spend their money.
