Carl Edwards Takes Pole in Bud Shootout

In what is a preview of the 2010 NASCAR season, the non-points precursor of the Daytona 500 will see Roush Fenway driver Carl Edwards starting from the pole position, after wining the draw for starting positions at this weekend's Shootout.

Edwards will be followed by Kevin Harvick, Brian Vickers, Ryan Newman and Greg Biffle in the top five. Unfortunately for Harvick, a crash early in practice which wrecked his car will place him at the back of the pack, because he will field a car he did not use in practice.

The crash did not affect the other drivers involved (Greg Biffle, Mark Martin, Jamie McMurray, Kurt Busch and Denny Hamlin), who will all retain their positions. For all of you expecting the 2010 season to be perhaps the most exciting in years, due to the recent rules changes, the crash in the practice session is only a preview of what will happen on tracks in the future.

For the 2010 Shootout, NASCAR has modified the criteria on which a driver can enter the event, allowing entries for drivers who have competed in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series during the past two seasons.

This means the Shootout is opened to the 12 drivers who took part in last year's Chase, to past Sprint Cup and Budweiser Shootout champions, to former Daytona 500 and Coke Zero 400 champions, as well as to the current Raybestos Rookie of the Year.

Below is the full starting grid for the 2010 Budweiser Shootout:
