CarBuzz's Top 5 Italian BMW Concepts Includes the Gran Lusso Coupe

The 2013 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este allowed us to feast our eyes on the most recent and most beautiful creation of the designers from BMW and Pininfarina, the Gran Lusso Coupe.

However, this is not the first time the Munich-based manufacturer joined forces with an Italian designer to bring unique concepts to the open public. There were several previous attempts and CarBuzz even made a top 5 out of them.

Excepting the most recent concept, the Gran Lusso Coupe, the top also includes cars like the BMW Zagato Coupe, a car inspired from the looks of the current E89 Z4 model. Released back in 2012, it was designed in collaboration with Zagato and it was also unveiled at the Concorso.

Another Italian-German creation that made the cut is the M1 Hommage concept, designed in collaboration with Giorgetto Giugiaro, the same person that was responsible for the only supercar in BMW's history, the M1.

The BMW Nazca C2 concept was designed by the same people as the M1 but between the 2008 version and the original. It was considered a more extreme version of the M1 and had a 6-liter V12 at its disposal to achieve mind boggling speeds. ItalDesign (the company run by Giugiaro) also created a spider version but neither entered production.

Last, but not least, we have the 1959 3200 Michelotti Vignale, built in collaboration with an array of Italian designers including Giovanni Michelotti, Sergio Scaglietti and Carrozzeria Vignale.

It had a V8 engine under the bonnet, with 150 HP and was based on the 507 BMW. Furthermore, it was rumored that it could reach 127 mph (203 km/h). After its official unveiling at the 1959 Turin Auto Show, the car made its way to several different owners until, in 2004, BMW decided to bring it back to Munich.
