Carbon Motors Police Car Going Under the Hammer

A promising car manufacturer at first, Carbon Motors is basically bankrupt after the US Department of Energy rejected a request for a $310 million loan last year. With liabilities of about $21.7 million, of which $6.6 million are owed to companies such as BMW, Morningstar Inc. and Inteva Products LLC, Carbon Motors filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in June.

This means their purpose-built E7 police cars won’t become more than the prototype they built a while back. However, those interested to own a unique vehicle can bid for the only E7 interceptor ever during an event organized by Indianapolis-based Key Auctioneers on January 23, Indystar reports.

Proceeds from the auction will go towards paying off the automaker’s debt, but we have a feeling Carbon Motors will need a whole lot more than a would-be police car that’s not even street legal.

Carbon Motors was founded in 2003 and announced plans to start developing high-tech police cars four years ago, when it moved into the vacant Visteon plant in Connersville.
