The Car2go fleet of 450 smart fortwo electric drive car that was set up in Stuttgart at the end of 2012 has hit its first major milestone. Over 20,000 customers have driven 1,000,000 kilometers (621,000 miles) with the tiny cars all around Stuttgart, solely via electric power.
With a cost of just 29 Euro Cents per minute with everything included (electricity for the first 20 km/12 miles, taxes and insurance) any person can rent a smart fortwo electric drive, use it for whatever time needed and then park it in any designated parking lot around the city.

The flexible car sharing program in Stuttgart has the largest fleet of electric vehicles in Germany and the largest electric car2go fleet in the entire world.

The smart fortwo ed's can be recharged at any of the 500 charging points that German electric company EnBW has built all around Stuttgart, and there are plans to increase their number in the near future, along with an increase in the car2go fleet.

A nice touch to the program is the fact that the electricity supplied to the electric smarts is produced exclusively from renewable energy sources. The smart fortwo car2go models have a range of up to 140 kilometers, while the average trip taken with the rented cars ranges from five to 15 kilometers.
