Self-proclaimed “first completely flexible car sharing service in the world”, car2go is beginning its Italian operations in Milan today.
The Daimler AG subsidiary company (a joint venture between Daimler and Europcar) is starting the Milan service with 150 smart fortwos, with another 300 cars becoming available until the middle of September.
As with other cities part of the car2go car sharing program, the smarts cand be used when needed and then left in any public car park available in Milan's 120 sq km business area, without time restrictions or monthly or annual fees.
“Italy is the largest market in the world for smart, and the smart fortwo - a perfect combination of lifestyle and functionality - is valued for being completely at home in an urban environment. That’s why we are confident that the people of Milan will experience car2go as a new, easy, and environmentally friendly way of getting around the city.” said Stefan Mueller, CEO of car2go Europe.
Interested users only pay for the actual car usage by the minute, with the total price including taxes, insurance, fuel, parking costs or congestion charges linked to the area in which the cars are driven.
