The Car2Go car sharing program will be officially launched in Toronto, tomorrow, June 30th. ‘Car-sharers’ will have 250 Smart EDs at their disposal, and they will have access to these cars after registering and receiving a membership card.
The aim of Car2Go is to be a clean alternative to driving one’s own car, alongside the public transportation network of any given city in order to further reduce CO2 emissions as well as traffic congestion. Those who are interested can register at toronto.car2go.com and they will receive 30 minutes of free driving time, and, the $35 membership fee is being dropped, for now.
As the car sharing program expands, new vehicles such as the Smart electric scooter will be offered as alternatives to the Smart ED. Also, the plan is to expand the service to a total of 30 cities from Europe and the US.
