Car Gets €21,000 Parking Ticket

Certainly odd situations happen all the time but this is no reason to issue ridiculous tickets people will only laugh at.

According to Austrian Times, a car left in a short-stay parking for two years may bring its owner a 21,000 Euro fine...in case he agrees to pay the price. Well, this is not a bad comedy movie as many of you might think rather the real story of a second hand Fiat Uno belonging to a Romanian immigrant. The vehicle which is now worth about 5,000 Euros seems to have been forgotten in the city centre of Graz after the two Romanian citizens that had been using it were arrested and then deported.

However, the car seems to be no longer desired by its owner who is now living in France. In fact, little does it matter whether he still wants the car or not since he has refused to settle the bill. But the car is not blocking traffic so local laws say it can not be towed away in this situation.

So, is it going to lie there forever? Apparently not. As interesting the idea of declaring it a Graz sightseeing monument that tourists can admire when visiting then city, it seems it won't be the case. The city officials have come up with the perfect solution to the problem: the car park will be declared under a construction site so they will be able to move the vehicle to a scrap yard.

Such a sad fate for the poor car. What could it be worse for a car than no being used for two years and then taken to its tomb? After all, why should we blame a car and make it pay for its owner's negligence? Perhaps someone reading the news was impressed by the vehicle's fate and will show up willing to pay the bill for it. Highly unlikely but who knows?
