Car Designing and Development to Change Using Microsoft HoloLens

Thought the Google Glass will revolutionize something? That’s just a mere head up display. Microsoft’s HoloLens is what you need to see and we think it will aid a lot in the automotive world.

Of course, this could also change the gaming as well as video on demand industry, but our concern here is related to the auto world which could take a 90 degree turn. Imagine you could visualize a full-size supercar in your living room and even interact with some of its components.

According to Microsoft, the “HoloLens intelligently maps the room you’re in, blending holograms with the environment around you. Pin holograms to physical locations you choose so that your room becomes the canvas for your holographic projects and games. With Microsoft HoloLens, you can interact with holograms and everyday objects together.”

But that’s not all. Imagine you’re a car designer/engineer and you’re working on a new model. You can see the CAD model right on your desk, fully 3D and you can also rotate, scale it or do adjustments.

Better than that, more engineers can work on the same thing from different places, without having to travel to a certain development center and see a clay model. Just put on the holographic goggles and point with your fingers what you want to change. Everybody else in the virtual conference will see.

Car maintenance or diagnosis could also benefit from this technology. Just like the video below shows a man teaching a woman how to do some plumbing via holograms, a mechanic can show you what to do by pointing or highlighting certain things on your own car, sparing you from a trip to the service.

You don’t need a phone, wires or other tethers for the device to work and it comes with a built-in spatial sound system so you can also hear the holograms, all powered by the next generation Windows 10 platform.

Microsoft can really become cooler than Apple or Google with the HoloLens if this thing reaches production and cost about the same as a normal computer. Our only concern is that it could transform us into creeps walking around and doing hand gestures like retarded monkeys...
