Car Care Council, CalRecycle Support "Just Check It"

As part of the car care month, the Car Care Council announced it has partnered with CalRecycle to promote the Just Check It Tire Sustainability Program set in place by the state of California.

The program will start Tire Sustainability Program on April 22, the Earth Day. Alongside the two aforementioned groups, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), the Bureau of Auto Repair (BAR), AAA of Northern California as well as other state agencies are expected to attend.

"Working with CalRecycle on its public awareness outreach is a natural fit for the Council's 'Be Car Care Aware' consumer education campaign," Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council said.

"Proper tire inflation and care is a key maintenance message echoed by the Council for improved vehicle fuel efficiency, safety and extended tire life."

According to a study by the Car Care Council, 80 percent of vehicles inspected experienced at least one part or system failure. The consumer-focused organization found that 54 percent of cars had low tire pressure, 38 percent were running low on oil, 16 percent had dirty air filters or 10 percent had low or contaminated brake fluid.

"Now more than ever, Californians are looking for simple ways to save money and live green," CalRecycle Acting Director Margo Reid Browna added. "Checking tire pressure once a month takes just a few short minutes and delivers many lasting benefits, including better performance, improved fuel efficiency and longer lasting tires, which saves money while helping to protect the environment."
