A car enthusiast from the Bronx, NYC may end up losing his beloved vehicle after 2 separate incidents with the police on the road and various reports that he’s involved in illegal racing.
Steven Simkin was arrested earlier this month after a high-speed chase that saw him eventually shake his police tail, NBC New York reports. Even though he was not apprehended right away, police were still able to track him down as they had taken his license plate.

Clarkstown Police confirmed the arrest this week. On July 10, a 2014 black Ford Mustang Shelby was spotted at an underground parking lot and 3 men were seen getting inside. Simkin was the driver and the officers gave pursuit because the description of the vehicle fit the one of a car involved in an earlier incident, when the driver fled the scene of a police traffic stop.

When Simkin noticed the police cruiser behind him, he sped up, reaching speeds of 130 mph on the New York State Thruway. He was weaving in and out of lanes and driving on the hard shoulder, and was eventually able to disappear.

He was arrested one day later and charged with “reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing a police officer and nine traffic infractions,” the report says. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, because this arrest seems to have opened a new can of worms for Simkin.

“Simkin is a frequent participant in a group of car enthusiasts who meet in the Nanuet area, police say, adding that they have received many reports of speed racing in that area and have taken an aggressive approach to arrest offenders,”
NBC New York writes.

“According to police, they will consult with the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office to possibly seize the Mustang from Simkin.”

Simkin is due in court next month.
