Capirossi Misses Aragon Race Due to Misano Injury

MotoGP will travel for the first time in the history of motorcycle racing to Aragon for a championship round, yet the series' veteran Loris Capirossi will not get to experience that. The Italian suffered a serious hand injury when crashing at Misano a few weeks back and he was told by his doctors that he must not race in Spain in order to complete his recovery.

Following the Misano crash, Capirossi underwent a medical operation, in which the bone of his little finger was reconstructed and his severed tendon was reattached. According to the medical staff, the operation was a success, but the recovery period is longer than initially expected.

Capirossi confirmed it in a Suzuki preview for the Aragon race, wishing all the luck to his rookie teammate Alvaro Bautista, who will be representing his Rizla Suzuki team alone on Sunday.

I am extremely disappointed not to be racing at Aragon, but the surgeon has told me to rest the hand for another week,” said Capirossi in the preview.

I am still feeling a bit of pain and I'm going to the hospital every day to have the wound cleaned and dressed, so although I could possibly be able to ride I wouldn't be fit enough and it might jeopardise my attendance and competitiveness at Motegi if I did - so it's best to stay at home.”

I wish Alvaro all the best for the weekend and hope that he gets a good result for us - we certainly need one. I'll be back for the trio of races next month and will be looking to get some good results at circuits where I know we can go well,” concluded the Italian veteran.
