It may not be taken straight out of the post apocalyptical world of the latest Mad Max installment, but this guy certainly took some inspiration out of that crazy world. Whether that inspiration is related to our planet or the fictive scenario of a movie, we can’t tell for sure. Luckily, he detailed every step so we can find out.
Wait, what’s a screw-propelled vehicle again? Think of a heavy vehicle that instead of tracks is using two big screws to advance from point A to point B. Whether it works on land or it’s an amphibious vehicle, it was designed to cope with severe snow and ice or mud and swamp.

Sounds like proper off-road fun time, doesn’t it? Well, it might be about that too. Initially, back in the second half of the 19th century, Swiss mechanic Jacob Morath designed it for agricultural work such as hauling a plough. So, in a way, the contraption in question is a lot more related to what the initial use of the machine was since the man used a tractor to build it.

The system is based on pure mechanics, as in you have something powering these “screws”. Such vehicles are being moved by the rotation of one or more auger-liker cylinders fitted with a helical flange that engages with the medium through or over which the odd beast is moving.

As can be observed, there has to be an engine to counter-rotate the cylinders by which the weight of the vehicle is borne. Regularly, one cylinder would turn clockwise and the other counter-clockwise. The counter-rotations cancel out, so the vehicle moves forwards (or backwards) along the axis of rotation.

Since we’re not planning to spoil the pleasure of discovering it yourself, we will not talk about how things went with the Canadian’s vehicle. We can tell you this much, the Screw Drive Vehicle is more than just what the name hints at.
