It appears like AMA Pro rider Geoff May kind of spilled at least some beans while talking to Greg White of Greg's garage as he mentioned a potential presence in World Superbike in 2014 aboard EBR machinery.
While such a perspective is utterly cool and interesting, to say the least, it would also mark the debut of an American motorcycle manufacturer in WSBK in it's quarter-century history.
However, as Asphalt & Rubber clearly shows it, becoming a WSBK entry is not exactly easy, at least not for a small manufacturer with almost limited runs.
Prior to the homologation inspection, the entry candidate must show a minimum of 125 production motorcycles, with the margin possibly increased for 2014. The manufacturer must then have 500 bikes ready for sale during the first half of the year, with 500 more by the end of the year, and the number reaching up to the 2000-unit mark by the end of the next year.
With the regulations of the Word Superbike not incurring actual sales but referring only to the availability of the bikes, Erik Buell Racing could have a less rough time, especially as the 1190RX has a much lover price than what the RS was offered for.
That is, if Erik can manufacture the required number of bikes and makes it into the WSBK, his potentially good results could steer more people into buying the new, affordable sport bike. Which is in turn, simply great!
