Campos to Announce Life-Saving Investor on Tuesday

Despite the recent reports that Campos Grand Prix is likely to go bankrupt prior to the official start of the 2010 Formula One season, it seems the next 24 hours will witness the salvation and survival of the Spanish team on the F1 stage. According to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, a sponsor for the team will be announced on Tuesday.

The aforementioned publication cited an internal source as saying that “within the next 24 hours we will announce our new investor.” The Spanish team is currently using Cosworth powerplants for their 2010 challenger, and has an increasing debt towards their chassis manufacturer for the upcoming campaign, Parma-based Dallara.

The report also mentioned that there are small to inexistent chances of Campos naming A1 GP World Cup of Motorsport boss Tony Teixeira as their saving sponsor. The South African businessman was interested in investing in the Spanish team, but only in exchange for a link-up with his dying A1 GP series.

Which brings us to the next allegation on the list, reported by the Spanish media last week. German carmaker Volkswagen was linked with a buyout of Campos Meta for the 2011 season, until which F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone will reportedly step in and provide the money for their debts to Dallara. The reports also suggested that Jose Ramon Carabante would become team boss – therefore replacing Adrian Campos – until the Volkswagen takeover.

Additionally, former Red Bull technical director Geoff Willis was linked with a role with the team, after some photographers at Jerez last week – during the second test of the winter – captured the word “Dallara” on his notepad, as reported by the GMM news agency. Dallara is currently supplying a single team with a chassis for the 2010 F1 season, namely Campos Grand Prix.
