Campos - Chandhok Deal Imminent, Confirmed by Kolles

Karun Chandhok is one step away from becoming India's first Formula One driver in the last 5 years, after the new team principal of Campos Grand Prix, Colin Kolles, confirmed the two parties are inches away from inking a deal for the 2010 season.

The GP2 racer has been in the rumor mill for one of the vacant spots in F1 for over a month now, but every time a media report would suggest he will sign a deal with a certain team, he came before the journalists to deny it. However, Kolles now made it very clear that his team and Chandhok's managers are to settle the last details of a racing deal for 2010.

We have been very impressed with Karun's performance in GP2 and are close to finalizing a deal with him. India is a great country and it would be great for the sport to have an Indian driver on the grid. However we will be in a better position to comment on this over the next few days,” said Kolles.

Additionally, the news was confirmed by Karun's father and manager Vicky (who was formerly the president of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India).

We are in talks with Colin and hope to confirm a deal very soon. We have known Colin for a number of years and we are absolutely amazed by his determination and passion to get the car on the grid in Bahrain. We have utmost faith in him and are hopeful to confirm things in the next few days,” said Chandhok.

Should the Indian racer be confirmed in the next few days, that would leave one of the other two racers linked with a racing seat with Campos – already-signed driver Bruno Senna and US F1's Jose Maria Lopez – outside F1 next year.

In some latest reports issued by Autosport, it seems Senna is not a certainty for the next season unless he'll manage to bring some more sponsorship with him for the season to come. If that will not happen, Campos are inclined to oust him and sign Lopez instead, as he is currently benefiting from strong backing from the Argentina government.
