Mercedes seems to be preoccupied with the launch of a number of SUVs this year, including a replacement for the GLK and the mid-life facelift for the GL. However, we're more concerned with the C205 C-Class Coupe today.
The Germans were never too keen on making compact coupes or offering the best technology on C-Class models. Some may remember the failed CLC-Class project, which mirrored the design of the BMW 3 Series Compact. After that, they finally decided to give us a true C-Class Coupe, and the C204 was so popular that a successor is planned.

Our friend DrGumo just sent us a video he took in Stuttgart. There, a prototype for the 2016 C-Class Coupe, codenamed C205, can be seen driving through regular traffic. People living in this German city are probably used to seeing prototypes likes this one because, despite the weird look of the Merc, nobody bats an eyelid.

For some reason, engineers have decided to test the car with a large roof box. Given the limited cabin space available, many coupe customers opt to install one when going on longer vacations. However, Mercedes has no time for fun in the sun. The market launch of the new C-Class Coupe is scheduled for November 2015, which means the reveal will likely take place at the Frankfurt Motor Show. That only leaves a few precious months to find any flaw and move to the production phase.

The styling of the C-Class Coupe has more to do with the S-Class Coupe than the W205. Its taillights sweep around the rear bumper and are split in half by the tailgate opening. At the front, we see full-LED headlights and a protruding grille that hold a massive Mercedes emblem.

Several types of engines will be available with this car, ranging from turbodiesels to the 510 PS twin-turbo V8 of the C63 AMG model. In between though, a 367 PS twin-turbo V6 will be made available as a kind of diluted high-performance model. It's all part of their plan to double AMG sales by the end of the decade.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
