The Chevrolet Camaro is America’s best selling muscle car in January 2013, the Oshawa-produced vehicle doing better than rivals Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger, despite a decline in demand.
While the Camaro topped the performance car selling list of January 2013 with 4,925 vehicle shipped, over 1,300 more than its biggest rival, Ford Mustang, General Motors couldn’t stop the slide of almost 14 percent compared to the first month of 2012.
The Mustang also fell short of the sales figures from January 2012, with 3.4 percent, managing to deliver 3,608 examples of its pony cars. Having lost the battle with Chevy for three consecutive years, Ford is hoping for a revival in 2013, the January figures being pretty optimistic considering Camaro’s plunge.
The third competitor, Dodge Challenger, has more reasons to smile about, as sales improved by an amazing 37 percent to 3,497 cars, just 111 less than the Ford Mustang. January was the worst month for the Challenger in 2012, so we should expect an interesting battle in the muscle car segment for 2013.
None of the three makers are to debut a new generation in 2013, with Ford's Mustang preparing for a, some say radical, redesign for the 2014 model year.
