Camaro Comes to Europe

Finally, after decades of waiting, Camaro fans across Europe may have the chance to get their hands on brand new Camaros from authorized dealerships and not through "friends-of-a-friend". The news comes after Jurgen Keller, Chevrolet Germany’s general manager told Auto Motor und Sport that the roar of the pony will be heard on Europe's streets.

Unfortunately, no other detail is available at this point. As the differences between the American and the European driver in terms of taste are significant, it is likely the car will come with some modifications. What is sure is that the US demand for the Camaro will have to be met first, and only then the car will take to the Old Continent.

According to pistonheads.com, the most likely engine to be used for the European version will be the 6.2l LS3 V8, developing either 400 or 426 hp. The same source says that the Camaro will most likely not be priced in the 25,000 euro range (equivalent to the US price), but more expensive.

As GM has explicitly said that their business will be heavily dependent on the Camaro, Corvette and Volt, the trip to Europe will most definitely be just a matter of time. Having no other major assets in Europe after the sale of Opel and Saab will be concluded, Camaro's move to Europe was the logical choice. It remains to be seen how Europeans will receive their first muscle/pony.

The success of the 2010 Camaro is obvious in the US, as it has outclassed rival Mustang for the first time in 16 years. The new Camaro sold 9,320 units in June, while the Mustang only 7,362. The last time the sale records looked like this was back in 1993, when the score was 10,985 to 5,680 in favor of Chevrolet.
