Callaway Cars has announced it will start a development program for making the new 2014 Corvette Stingray into a GT3-class race car that will be homologated under FIA rules.
“As Callaway has just received the required letter of authorization from Chevrolet, Callaway has become the appointed specialist representative for building and holding the homologation of the Corvette C7 FIA GT3 race cars,” Callaway Cars said in a statement.
The C7 Corvette won’t the first such vehicle to be transformed into a GT3 race car by Callaway, as the Connecticut specialist also homologated the Corvette C6 version with FIA for the same class. In fact, Callaway is the most successful GT3 team, holding numerous Drivers and Team Championships achievements since 2007.
No plans for a street-legal Callaway based on the 2014 Corvette Stingray have been revealed yet, but we would be surprised not to see one in the next couple of years. However, Callaway Cars are already working on new supercharged pickups based on GM’s new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra twins.
