Callaway C8 Corvette Teased With "Double-D" Exhaust System, Forged Wheels

Founded in 1977 on the shoulders of the Callaway Turbo Systems for European luxury cars, Callaway Cars turned its attention to the Corvette thanks to Dave McLellan. The man who replaced Zora Arkus-Duntov at GM is the mastermind behind the Callaway Corvette association that started off with a special edition of the fourth-gen model.

Now that the C8 has switched to a mid-engine configuration like Zora always wanted it to be, the Connecticut-based tuner is looking forward to rolling out a double-D exhaust system. “Featuring a new iteration of the Single-Acoustic Chamber (SAC) originally developed for the Callaway C12 and later C7 Corvette,” the aftermarket upgrade promises improved flow and frequency cancellation alike in addition to central-exit outlets.

The carbon-fiber panel surrounding the exhaust system is there for show and to improve the muffler’s cooling. At the time of writing, Callaway says that prototype testing is underway. Therefore, let’s move on to O.Z. Racing forged wheels with a nine-spoke design and black paint.

According to the company’s latest entry on social media, the wheels are currently being optimized to exceed TUV and JWL standards. The forged rollers promise “considerable weight savings over the OE offerings,” and that’s very important in a mid-engined car. Not only do they reduce unsprung mass, but these wheels are wider than what Chevy offers for the Stingray. As such, offset will be reduced for a flush fit and increased track width.

Callaway Cars, however, won’t stop here. In the upcoming months, further styling and aerodynamic features will be announced, one at a time. Better still, “powertrain offerings” are in the pipeline as well along with “a line of track day-specific improvements” for the Stingray.

Taking the seventh-generation Corvette as the yardstick, chances are we’ll be treated to the SC627 and SC757 supercharged upgrades. The latter is rated at 757 horsepower or 767 metric ponies, 777 pound-feet (1,053 Nm) of torque, 2.8 seconds from zero to 60 miles per hour (97 kph), and 10.5 seconds at 131 miles per hour (211 kph) for the 1/4-mile run.
