One duo from Oceanside, California, decided to make the most of a sad situation, when heavy rains hit San Diego County and the streets of the city were flooded for hours.
Just like that saying goes, when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade, so the father-son pair jumped at the chance of having a little fun. So they took the family’s Chevrolet Suburban, tied a paddle board to it and went for a fun and hilarious ride.
They never imagined their idea of fun would turn them into viral stars, 19-year-old surfer Lukas Soelberg tells NBC San Diego in an interview. In fact, they thought no one would pay them any attention, since the situation was pretty drastic.
Lukas says firefighters waved at them, but other than that, he didn’t notice anyone else looking. To his and his father’s surprise, someone shot a video of them during the ride and posted it to social media. He’s not sorry they did, but it did take him by surprise.
As for how they came up with the idea, Lukas says it was all his father’s. And he was more than up for it, having already driven down the same street minutes before and seeing that this was a good opportunity to try something different.
“I was just hitting the tail,” Lukas says of the ride. “It was grinding on the ground the whole time. Oh, no keep moving but it ended up pretty good.”
“(I) jumped in the Suburban, grabbed some rope and the paddle board. It was all clogged up all the roads, the back streets, everything, so we popped out the back, grabbed the board - Go go go!” he continues. “No one tried to stop us. We waved by the lifeguards, they were like, ‘Yay,’ and we were like, ‘Yay, no one's stopping us’.”
Indeed, no one stopped them. Lukas doesn’t say how long the ride was.
