Cadillac is preparing for a leap into the future with a new concept car.
The exhibit will be unveiled publicly at this year’s Monterey Car Week, and Cadillac’s concept car is set to be revealed on August 18, 2016. It is evidently a concept car, but the American automaker has decided to focus on its interior and technology, instead of the usual lines and shapes.
The latest exhibit from Cadillac seems to be the inspiration for the future of interiors built by the brand, and curved OLED screens look like the right direction for the premium brand from General Motors.
After all, its competitors from Audi already have a full digital gauge cluster for over a year on the market, while rivals from BMW offer a similar product.
Mercedes-Benz has been phasing out analog gauges for digital screens, so it was about time for Cadillac to come up with something to impress its customers.
Since Cadillac has mentioned in its extremely brief press release that its concept will use multiple curved OLED screens, all developed with the help of LG Electronics, it is easy to understand that the brand will replace more than just the main gauge cluster.
Most likely, Cadillac will go for a full revamp of the infotainment system, as will most of the elements usually found on the center console.
The concept car from Cadillac might not have too many buttons inside, if any, but production cars inspired by it will probably not follow the same specification. We can draw this conclusion after observing other automakers that have switched to simplified dashboard designs.
A few buttons will probably be kept on the center console, like the switches for the hazards, central locking, as well as the command to defrost the windshield and the rear window.
Since concept cars can go all out when it comes to ditching practical features, do not expect any buttons on the center console. Just below, you can see a video teaser published by Cadillac on its official YouTube account.
