General Motors’ most luxurious brand is hard at turning around its ways of doing business. In recent years, the American carmaker launched the ATS and revamped CTS, as well as a posh new-gen Escalade, but the near future holds a lot more in store for us.
You might remember that our carparazzi spied an upcoming flagship sedan from Caddy dubbed the CT6. Then they spied the SRX’s replacement, which is believed to adopt the XT5 name. But here’s the thing - Cadillac announced that it will rebrand its entire lineup except for the Escalade with CT and XT names.

Alright, nothing wrong with that, but our recent web search in the United States Patent and Trademark Office database showed a curious result - the automaker filed for a lot of trademarks, as follows: CT2, CT3, CT4, CT5, CT6, CT7, CT8, joined by their XT counterparts all the way from 2 to 8. What's it mean?

Well, we know the upcoming CT6 will be a sort of a momentary Cadillac flagship until the CT8 will come around and we also know about the XT5 crossover, so there’s a lot of model names left to fill some segment gaps. Coupes, sedans, CUVs and SUVs, the next six years will see Cadillac relabel its full lineup.

Our biggest curiosity at the moment is how Caddy prez and ex-Audi man Johan de Nysschen will rename the ATS, CTS, their two-door variants, as well as their Vsport and -V performance variants. In addition to this mystery, we also have a sneaking suspicion an ELR successor will follow because a convertible Cadillac is what the brand needs to hike its appeal even more for both old and new customers.
