Although many keep saying that manual transmissions are a dying breed, Cadillac begs to differ – at least when it comes to dealing with the high-performance versions of its latest premium sedans. The brand’s latest teaser brings the welcomed surprise that Cadillac’s 2022 CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing models will become available with a stick shift created with some help from the modern process of 3D printing.
So, it’s time to sum up what we know so far about the 2022 CT4-V Blackwing and 2022 CT5-V Blackwing. For starters, we have Cadillac’s own set of teasers, which so far showed the leather-clad carbon fiber-trimmed performance steering wheel, a bit of the racing-inspired, carbon fiber seats, as well as the series-exclusive Magnesium wheels.

More so, we can easily imagine the 4th generation MagneRide suspension – already in use on the lesser CT4-V and CT5-V – will be a fixture on the Blackwings, as well. So far, we have also caught up with the CT5-V Blackwing while testing in full camouflage attire, which is also the first time we caught wind of the manual tranny surprise.

Now, it’s official – the Blackwing models are coming with one crucial element driving enthusiasts crave in a performance vehicle (as well as Bronco Sasquatch fans, it seems). Mind you, Cadillac is giving customers more than a regular ol’ stick shifter, as the gearbox was created through “new additive manufacturing applications that will bring 3D-printed parts into the upcoming ultra-high-performance sedans.”

The 2022 CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing are set to become GM’s first-ever production models equipped from the factory with functional 3D-printed parts. These will include a couple of HVAC ducts, an electrical harness bracket, as well as a bespoke 3D-printed medallion that we can already see proudly adorning the shift knob of the six-speed transmission in this teaser.

The automaker will offer the manual transmission as a standard fixture on both models, with the ten-speed automatic offered as the alternative. Both the 2022 CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing limited series will reach dealerships starting next summer.
